Finlandia ijsschaatsbaan is einde verhaal, er komt geen nieuw schaatsseizoen meer.

Een verhaal dat begon 45 jaar geleden toen Finlandia opende met een schaatsbaan en een ruime cafetaria. De mensen van dicht en van ver kwamen naar hier om te schaatsen.

Maar na 45 jaar is het op. Een specialistenteam onderzoekt regelmatig onze koelinstallatie en de leidingen onder het beton. We komen stilaan op een punt dat langer openblijven niet meer kan, toch niet als we alles veilig en verantwoord willen houden. Er is slijtage en de normen van 45 jaar geleden zijn op vandaag niet meer genoeg.

Om er opnieuw een ijsbaan van te maken naar hedendaags model, moet zowat alles hertekend worden : het gebouw zelf met betere isolatie, koelinstallatie, automatisatie, enz.
Zware kosten, die als privé-investeerder economisch niet meer te verdedigen zijn.

De laatste jaren zijn er meerdere studies gebeurd – herinner je de provinciale studie om hier een 400-meter baan te maken. Daarmee groeide ook stilaan het besef bij de investeerders dat het een kwestie van tijd was vooraleer alles zou moeten vernieuwd worden en er misschien ook nood was aan een plan B.
Dat Finlandia regelmatig in the picture kwam de laatste jaren, ontging ook de andere spelers op de vrijetijdsmarkt niet. Andere projecten kregen interesse in de locatie en mogelijkheden van Finlandia en er kwamen al gauw meerdere voorstellen voor nieuwe activiteiten.

En zo is het eigenlijk enorm snel gegaan : het niet meer kunnen heropstarten van de ijsbaan en de nood aan ruimte voor sport en ontspanning kon niet anders dan resulteren in een nieuw project. De hal met zijn hoge afmetingen was er perfect geschikt voor : Jumpsquare, een XXL Indoor Trampolinepark.

Jumpsquare, breidt momenteel in ijltempo uit met reeds vestigingen in Hasselt en Brugge en binnenkort dus ook in Gullegem. Een activiteit die zowel recreatief als sportief kan beoefend worden. Nieuwsgierig ? Neem dan maar eens een kijkje op www.jumpsquare.be
Verwacht wordt dat Jumpsquare vóór het jaareinde al de deuren opent.

Als uitbaters van de ijsschaatsbaan staan we voor een afscheid. Ons gevoel is dubbel.

We zijn blij dat er iets nieuws komt en Finlandia blijft bestaan, maar dat de ijsschaatsbaan er niet meer zal zijn… dat is toch wel een harde noot om kraken, we hadden het liever anders gezien.

We willen graag alle bezoekers en trouwe klanten bedanken voor de vele fijne schaatsseizoenen. Ook al onze medewerkers die zich jarenlang flexibel hebben ingezet voor een goede werking.
De clubs, The Jets en The Oldtimers (ijshockey) en Temptation Skating Club Karelia (kunstschaatsen), die zich steeds vrijwillig en mateloos engageerden, we willen hen oprecht bedanken. We weten dat dit hard zal aankomen en kunnen niet anders dan hopen dat zij een onderkomen zullen vinden bij een andere ijsbaan.

Met dank voor de mooie tijd die we hier beleefden, en met vertrouwen dat Finlandia met zijn Glow Golf, Prison Island, bijlwerpen en Jumpsquare een nieuwe tijd tegemoet gaat !

Een originele schooluitstap of sportdag organiseren voor je school? Dat kan, de leerlingen genieten een hele schaatsbeurt van het wintergevoel! Voor scholen hanteren wij speciale tarieven.

Groepen vanaf 15 personen

Met de familie, vriendengroep, bedrijf, club of jeugdbeweging komen schaatsen op het ijs? Groepen genieten van het groepstarief = 6 euro p.p., schaatsen inbegrepen. Fun is gegarandeerd!

Verjaardagen

Opzoek naar een fantastische plek voor je verjaardagsfeestjes? Vier je verjaardag samen met je vriendjes, vriendinnetjes en familie op de IJsbaan in Gullegem. Bekijk hier onze exclusieve feestpakketten.

Feestjes

Heb je iets te vieren? Combineer ijsschaatsen met een etentje. Kijk snel in het volledige overzicht met arrangementen. Uiteraard zijn er ook mogelijkheden voor arrangementen op maat!

Schaatslessen

Onder deskundige begeleiding leert u schaatsen. Zowel kinderen als volwassenen kunnen lessen volgen. Voor kids vanaf het 4e leerjaar zijn er sportkampen tijdens de schoolvakanties.
